Scholarships

This spring, The Collective Generational Mentoring Foundation (TCGMF) will launch
its annual scholarship campaign aimed to acknowledge the accomplishments and acts of merits of outstanding college students. The scholarship program is open to African American male collegiate juniors and seniors who have demonstrated strong leadership in their local community as well as in their respective academic field (Business or Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).

These targeted scholarships are one of the ways the organization helps to reach its goals of improving the outcomes of youth and young adults of African-American descent. The Collective Generational Mentoring Foundation was created to address the needs of individuals in a mentoring relationship to improve the positive outcomes associated with productive mentoring activities. During the last 8 more than $70,000 in scholarships have awarded to college students. The foundation is led by Houston community leader Eric Lyons, whose work has impacted hundreds of Houstonians as an entrepreneur and leader in multiple community organizations.

According to 2023 College Success Scholar Hunter Waldon, a senior majoring in Accounting at the Prairie View A&M University, “Being a TCGMF College Success Scholar has been a pivotal piece of my collegiate career. Through the lessons, mentorship, and opportunities it has provided not only have I been able to surround myself with likeminded people, but I’ve continuously been able to be pushed by my peers in the program while I push them as well to achieve greatness.” As a testament to the success of our scholars, Hunter serves as the 41st Mr. Prairie View and the 20th Mister HBCU.

TCGMF’s concept was organically created by a group of young adults commonly referred to as “the collective association,” who shared several things in common: 1) a mentoring relationship with Lyons focused on assisting them with college preparation, career exposure, professional development and leadership skills and 2) the desire to give back to their community by improving the lives of other youth and young adults, specifically African-American males.  The composition of the board of directors is filled with former and current mentees who have united with the goal of opening pathways and helping others become more equipped and prepared for their careers and life.
